Our day started relatively late and we were on the trail by 9 am. The path today started as a steep ascent and gradually tapered off to flowing turns among quiet wooded areas. We passed streams and small waterfalls, taking breaks often to re-energize with a snickers. We didn’t see as much wildlife today but what we lacked in animals we made up for in nature. Snowy peaks provided the backdrop for the peaceful tree line. One section of the path featured dozens and dozens of cairns placed next to a river. It’s strange and somewhat exciting to think that our trip is ending in a little over two weeks… I think this is the first time I’ve been really ready to abandon vagabonding for some regularity.
The lodge portion of the Sky View Hotel has a log fire burning and warming up my soggy back. Three wooden tables line the windows. Although it seems like a universal deal to exchange paying for dinner + breakfast for a nights stay all of the innkeepers have acted very hush hush while we’ve negotiated. Once again, we’ll be sleeping here in Tadapani free of charge.
The weather is misty and thick, wispy fog has enveloped the forest surrounding the hotel. I’m debating ordering a small pot of ginger lemon tea… 400 rupees is a pretty penny but it would hit the spot.
Hiking the Annapurna trail seems to be the best of both worlds when it comes to hiking: incredible views, challenging hiking, warm, consistent accommodation, and tasty food at the end of the day (apple pie!). I would like to return in the future.
