The trip back to Paris was uneventful and Louise and I have spent our time the last three days doing our final India prep. Louise picked up some water purification tablets and I a new toothbrush and we were set. In the end, we ended up packing relatively light. Both of us are bringing packs around 45 liters and additional small 20 liter packs for day trips.

Early Tuesday am we drove to meet Patrick, a friend of Louise’s parents, and his friend, Alan. Alan hitched his two Norwegian horses to a carriage and we spent the following three hours quietly touring around the countryside. While we trotted, we stopped to greet a 90 year old farmer tending to acres of green beans with his tractor and to view a memorial for three english pilots shot down in the area in World War II. The residents of the town hid the pilots from the germans and the road we traveled on was named after the last surviving pilot.

The next day we extorted another free trial day from a gym in Angers and packed our bags. As all mother’s do, Louise’s mom bid us a teary goodbye at the train station before we left for the airport. She packed us a delicious lunch of quiche and homemade brownies. I’ll be happy to eat less dessert in India but no complaints about a month of complete indulgence in France. Next post will be from Mumbai, India.
