I left my kindle and headlamp in the hostel common area and sadly they’ve evaporated. Definitely my fault but a bummer nonetheless.
Yesterday after a late breakfast we called an ayurvedic massage spot and locked in two massages for the afternoon. The massages cost $14 per hour. Ayurvedic massage is slightly different from other types of massage as it is as much about your skin absorbing essential oils than the type of touch. Soon after lying on the table we were covered in what felt like pleasant smelling vegetable oil.
We toweled off and got another lassi from lassiwalla. In the afternoon we walked through the Hawa Mahal palace dedicated to Krishna, the flute playing Hindu god.
At night we blindly ordered from a take out Rajasthan restaurant and I picked two very similar chickpea based dishes.
The event at the hostel in the evening was a pool party, and we uber’d just outside of the city with our dorm mates from Trinidad & Tobago. We passed many people sleeping on the streets and in makeshift huts. Our car pulled into the bar/lounge and it was a different India. People sipped cocktails and wore button down shirts and leather shoes. A pool table in the center of the room was surrounded by well dressed Indians smoking cigarettes. A large pool bordered the club, and inside the main building a DJ played big room house at full volume. The juxtaposition against the people sleeping immediately outside the door of the club was dramatic.
Louise and I joined in the pool and played a game called Rummy where the goal is to get to 100 points, each ball has a point value, and each ball has a specific place on the table after it’s made into a pocket. While we played I chatted with one guy and we got to talking about music. He explained that he’s a DJ and goes by the stage name Monkey. When I asked him what music he typically played, he replied, “minimal, techno, Steve Aoki… shit like that.”
Club Naila’s motto was something like “freedom, music, dance, & truth.” We goofily danced around and sipped free drinks obtained by the girls for ladies night before heading home.
