After a mediocre night of sleep we groggily entered the patio of the moon hotel to claim our free breakfast. I ate an omelette in approximately three bites.

In an effort to save money we moved to another hotel, the A/C free Khammany Inn for 80000 kip a night. We dropped our bags and rented a scooter for the day. The scooter came with two very styrofoamy helmets (one featuring hello kitty before we swapped it out for a different style) and a speedometer, odometer, and gas gauge that were out of operation. It didn’t matter.

We fueled up at the gas station nearby and left along a pot hole filled road. Eventually I took to following the lines of the local scooters ahead of me… constant vigilance of the craters was tiring.

Eventually we arrived at Kuang Si waterfall and ate a quick lunch of ginger chicken and noodle soup. Different day, same noodle soup. The park came highly recommended in the guide book which can typically be taken with a grain of salt. However this recommendation fully lived up to the hype.

Misty, fluorescent blue water made its way through downed trees and over tan rock beds. The milky water appeared opaque in the pool but became entirely transparent as it flushed over the rocks. The water was biting. Small fish nibbled at our feet while we perched, half submerged, on two waterlogged trees.

We walked between the reservoirs, slowly ascending the waterfall to the largest drop. A path led us to a lookout at the top, and an emergency bathroom trip in the woods nearby left me frantically flicking ants off my extremities.
