I struggled to sleep last night and couldn’t shut my mind off about the future, potential jobs, and life. I realize that this is the time when I have few, if any, responsibilities. But I couldn’t help it.

I zombied out of bed at 9 and following breakfast at our hostel we walked into town to rent bicycles. We paid a euro each for the day and left along the coastal dirt path.

We stopped for a coconut and pineapple smoothie in a riverside cafe and then continued on to Don Khone, the island adjacent to Don Det. There are no cars on either island, and thus the largest pathway is only around six feet wide. After we paid the tax to enter Don Khone as tourists we followed the waterfall signs to Somphamit waterfall.

The waterfall wasn’t so dramatic in its height, but its breadth and power were impressive. Gurgling muddy water quickly put me to sleep on the wooden viewpoint.

We spent the rest of the afternoon blindly following side routes deeper into the underbrush. Multiple times buffalo peacefully appeared out of the trees and forced us to hop off the bikes to work around them. Its the lower season here due to rain and we had a beach entirely to ourselves.

Inevitably we got lost along the back paths of the jungle and were forced to retrace our steps to the main road. Multiple caved in bridges forced us to reroute.

We made it back to the hostel happily covered in mud.
