Well, we made it. Louise was feeling a bit ill last night as we finished eating and this morning she was wrecked with a flu. Through the hostel we arranged for a jeep to transport her from the village back to Pokhara for $20.
The dogs we’ve seen while hiking have been magnificent, regal, thick coated mountain muts. I’ve passed many water breaks scratching ears and subsequently sporting wet-dog cologne for the rest of the day.
As always on hikes, some reoccurring songs kept us laughing, including….
I’ve been working on the railroad
Peel Banana (english learning song)
The last hour of the hike was steep and the fog collapsed into rain. We donned raincoats and trudged on to Kande where we caught a bus.
I saw freeze frames of some beautiful moments through the bus window that had me longing for a high quality camera. A puppy playfully lunging at an older dog. Two construction workers taking a break from bricklaying to compare their heights face to face with a tape measure. A group of men tightly crowded around a gambling mat. A small child in a disheveled school uniform looking inquisitively into the bus windows.
The peace I felt (and feel) in the mountains is a wonderful high. The best moments of the hike occurred as the sun was rising with a warm cup of ginger tea in hand.
